Untitled Contemporary Art

November 2023

For this piece, I tried to create a fictional story that was inspired from a dream I had about filmmaking. From this dream, I created a what if scenario of my mother creating a film she never got to complete. She would have to shelve the film to be able to raise me. If I ever asked my mother if I would want to revive her project, what would she say? Should we live to others’ legacies that were left behind to the changes in our lives, or do we complete each other by being present in their lives and being able to impact one another fruitfully. Maybe you don’t need to complete a piece of work someone can’t finish, but you are enough. You can have similar interests and pursuits as other people in your life, but your company in others’ lives is all enough to content each other.

The art piece draws in elements that made me nostalgic, such as sunsets, family relationships, shore sides, and references to the television show Thomas & Friends. These elements don’t contribute any subtext but are there to give homages to what interests I’ve had. Not only to serve as reference, but also aided me to develop how the scene should be set up. I needed a couple to sit to see the sunset, and having this signal house helps serves the purpose of the story. The meaning of the art piece had changed over time after its creation, for learning more information on what occurred before I was born. Now this piece revealed an unconscious wonder of what my parents were, and I wouldn’t have the concept changed either way.
