My first college project using Photoshop tackles my idea of what purgatory would look like. The idea would’ve been conceived as a waiting room where your name wouldn’t be called upon. However, the characters don’t seem frightened and only pay homages to people I’ve created. I had an idea around this time to have a comic that would’ve been inspired by 13 Reasons Why with the individuals on the left and the person with the newspaper. The couple would’ve been friends and had a teacher that would teach their class. Due to personal discussions, I’ve haven’t come back to this concept, but I still think about these characters. Four of the seven characters are just self inserts of myself in different versions. One is the teacher character, next to it is a replication of my current appearance, the receptionist is how I draw myself in a cartoon style, and the one standing represents the wardrobe my character and myself used to wear in real life. The last time this wardrobe was used in the art piece was the tryptic project. As for real life, I still have the pieces to assemble it, but haven’t worn it frequently as I’ve had back in grade school and high school. The music I’ve listened to at this time shaped the concept I was creating. I’d imagine in this waiting room you would listen to tracks created by the Caretaker, for his works consist of distorted loops of ballroom music from vinyl records. Leaving you in a melancholic state, but at the same time feeling relaxed.
