Personal Invitation

February 25, 2024

This project wouldn't have happened without my mom recommending to my aunt to do a video invitation. My aunt, who lives in Mexico City, wanted me to make an invitation for my cousin's 18th birthday. She gave me a reference video of someone else's invitation template to base the work out of. I was given free reign over creating the video, but the conditions were to have their choice of color flowers and texts.

First, I've chosen a public domain image of a lilac to create a drawing out of. Next, I figure out how the video should look by developing the graphics, font choice, and colors for the invitation. I was asked to use a crown svg, and would need to retrieve it from iStock with a free trial to use. However, after completing the project I was charged for not turning off the renewal. Regardless of my error, the inclusion of the crown makes the invitation feel important in terms of milestones to the birthday girl and her family. Then, I would need to animate an invitation to appear within the video as a transition to the text. I was inspired by the Terry Bogard Reveal Trailer to create an animation of an envelope rotating till it stops at the center. Furthermore, I used the flower illustration to create lilac and golden roses to come out of the invitation; with the former showing up first. It was a creative decision to feature a blue rose, for it felt needed to have an extra color complement with the gold and lilac. Later, the flowers descend to reveal the first lines of text for the invitation. An animated star is shown to compliment the poem created by the cousin, for it indicates her recognition of her parents' efforts and that she would use the opportunities given to become greater than before. Lastly, the last bits of animations used were photos appearing on screen with simple tweening and a set of flowers in a circle rotating the lilac in the middle. Throughout the making of the video, it was essential to use a background song to get the feel on when the sequence should be revealed and disappear. After the completion of the video, I was only asked to change the text to reflect with the client’s preference.
